Designing incentives for intrapreneurs: an interview with Eric Bourget

"When we started to apply gamification to large organizations, it failed miserably". Eric Bourget is something like a serial entrepreneur in matters related to organizational motivation. After founding Half Serious, a successful consulting startup that applies game mechanics to organizational behaviour, he launched Insyders, a co-innovation problem solving platform.

 

In Eric's view, the fact that the majority of today's employees are disengaged (and sometimes actively so) is a problem caused but our inability to recognize what Dave Snowden calls complicated and complex problems. "We want predictability", says Bourget, so much so that our bureaucracies are ill-fitted to deal with complexity. We suffer from analysis paralysis, and are unable to get to individual's higher purposes of accomplishment and ownership.
